Meet Dr. Herman

Gerald L. Herman, DMD

Dr. Gerald L. Herman, a board eligible prosthodontist, is a specialist in oral rehabilitation and occlusion utilizing crowns, bridges, dentures and implants for patients who are missing teeth or have advanced dental problems and esthetic concerns.

Dr. Herman is considered one of New York City's finest cosmetic dentists with expertise in all of the latest techniques in smile enhancement, porcelain bonding and teeth whitening.  He also has attained advanced certification in Invisalign Orthodontics.

Dr. Herman combines the very best of conventional and holistic dental philosophies in his practice.  Failing mercury amalgam fillings are replaced with tooth-colored composites or porcelain but never another mercury amalgam.  Any metals used in the mouth are of the high noble or precious metal variety; never any base or non-precious metals.  Our dental x-rays are computerized digital radiographs which provide immediate diagnostics and excellent images with 90% less radiation than conventional x-rays.

Dr. Herman graduated from New York University in 1977 with a BA in biology and psychology. He then completed one year of a master’s degree program in oral biology at Hofstra University. After earning his DMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1982, he spent two years in private general practice in Philadelphia. In 1984, he was accepted into the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry. This prestigious program is internationally recognized for its dental academic excellence. He received his certificate in the specialty of prosthodontics in 1986.

Dr. Herman has held faculty appointments at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, New York University College of Dentistry, Mt. Sinai Hospital and Peninsula Hospital. He has published articles in various dental journals, and he has lectured at scientific meetings and at hospitals. He has made numerous television appearances to discuss topics in dentistry, and has contributed to several books in the areas of prevention of dental disease and cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Herman is a fellow of the Northeastern Gnathological Society and is a member of the American College of Prosthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the First District Dental Society.

Dr. Herman’s most recent continuing education includes the Aesthetic Advantage program in cosmetic dentistry at NYU, the use of the soft tissue laser in dentistry, and the dental management of sleep apnea and sleep-related breathing disorders.

His interests include fitness, music, art and antiques. He is the "Art Director" at Park 56 Dental Group and takes great pride in exhibiting paintings, photography and antique posters from his own collection, including works of art by his patients and some of his own creations. Dr. Herman has had several exhibitions of his artwork and photography at galleries in Manhattan and the tri-state area.  Dr. Herman's twenty-five year old son, Elliot, is a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Marines and a 3rd year law and political science student at the State University of New York in Syracuse.
